What is Mobitag?
Mobitag is a free SMS service reserved for private individuals and addressed to mobile phones in New Caledonia only.
On the OPT website (www.mobitag.nc - free mobitag service), all you have to do is enter your correspondent's number and write the message you wish to send for your recipient to receive the mobitag a few moments later.
All Mobilis and Liberté subscribers can receive mobitag mini-messages.
How does it work?
- Leave the "I accept the terms of use" box ticked (if it is unticked, the message is not sent).
- Enter your recipient's number (6 digits).
- If you wish, enter your own phone number (6 digits): it will be written at the beginning of the message.
- Enter the content of your message (150 characters at most).
- Tick the "I'm not a robot" box and wait until it says "Verified".
- When the button reads "SEND" (you have to wait 10 seconds), click on it once only.
A confirmation message tells you that your message has been sent to your recipient.
How much does it cost?
To the sender: sending a mobitag is free, only the cost of a normal Internet connection is charged.
To the recipient: receiving, storing and reading a mobitag is free.
Why can't I use my browser's back button?
The form is valid for a single sending only, and the browser does not keep the pages in memory: if you go back, your data has disappeared.
Use the links provided, for example "Home Page", to start again.
I connect from a company, government office, university, etc.
Contact your IT staff or network administrator to find out whether you are connected behind a proxy server. If so, their help is needed to stop the mobitag.nc site from being cached on the servers.
I connect from a company, government office, university, etc. ... without a proxy but through a local network.
Does the computer that manages the internet connections cache pages? If so, contact your IT staff or network administrator.
Why are some characters excluded, such as "]" or accented letters?
A mobitag can only contain a certain number of characters.
In web language (html), an accented letter such as "é" is written as "é". Your mobitag would therefore exceed the maximum size.
Accented letters are replaced by the same letters without accents, and the characters @ } ] [ { ( ) are not taken into account. See the list.
Why is there a time limit to type and send a mobitag?
This time limit has always existed; it now appears openly as a countdown (8 minutes) above the send button. When it reaches zero, the form is locked: click "Home Page" to get a new one.
Why do I have to wait a few seconds before sending, or sending again, a mobitag?
The send button reads "Please wait 10 seconds." then becomes active. After a sending, wait another 10 seconds before sending a new one. This delay regulates the traffic. If you try to validate your sending before the end of the delay, mobitag.nc may not validate your request.
The service tells me my message "may have been sent". What should I do?
The service did not answer in time: it is impossible to know whether the message has left. Check with your recipient before sending it again, so as not to send the same message twice.
Why does mobitag stop my session or block my IP address?
This function protects Internet users from spammers. Your session or your IP address is temporarily suspended when it makes too many requests in a short time, or when it has reached the maximum number of connections or sendings.
Why an "I'm not a robot" box?
The verification guarantees that the form is filled in by a real person (and not by an automated program). It matters because hackers use intrusive programs to try to harm other users, in particular by sending unwanted messages or very large numbers of them.
All you have to do is tick the box: your browser then does a small calculation, which takes a few moments, and the box says "Verified". Nothing has to be copied.
If the verification fails or has expired, tick the box again; if it still does not work, reload the page before writing your message by clicking "Home Page".
Why these authentication measures?
On the web, and in New Caledonia too, there are unfortunately unscrupulous Internet users whose actions regularly force website managers to take ever stricter measures concerning the transmission of exchanged data. This is the case for mobitag.nc.
Can you give us technical information about the authentication measures?
No, because they would no longer make sense with regard to unscrupulous Internet users.
Why am I sent to a page saying my device is not approved?
This service is designed to be used from a computer. A phone, or a very small screen, is sent to an information page.
These computer settings are complicated, isn't there a simpler way?
Website developers are aware that it is sometimes neither simple nor obvious for everyone to know how to configure their software. Even if the settings they recommend seem tedious, they are designed to be as unrestrictive as possible and accessible to as many people as possible.
